Family Parochet in Miami Beach

So how did this masterpiece Parochet come to being?

When my customer initially discussed the Parochet idea with his father the so-to-speak owner of the shul, he leaned towards a tree of life theme. He was also have a small Torah created at the same time in the same theme!

The parochet was being donated in memory of my customer's grandfather who passed away young, when his father was only five years old. He never knew about what the future would hold for his family.

It was also being donated in memory of his grandmother. His grandmother was very into tzedaka and chessed. She now has about 100 descendants, keneynehora! His grandmother planted a tree in the cemetery where she would one day be buried. The roots of the tree she planted 50 years earlier covered her kever. She got the most special grave because of the acts of kindness she performed in her youth!

To make the parochet interesting they wanted me to artistically embroider their grandparents' names along the roots of the Tree of Life.

At first they thought of the passuk "Ivdu es Hashem besimcha. However, they moved to a meaningful idea - having the possuk ... והיה כעץ שתול על־פלגי  as the main passuk of the parochet, as it connects so beautifully to the many ideas that they were aiming to convey.

They went for laser-cut "Ivdu est Hashem besimcha", inside the Aron, above the top shelf.

In art, it's what I want you to feel, not necessarily what I want you to see.

והיה כעץ שתול על־פלגי .... וכל אשר יעשה יצליח

Among the many messages in this passak, is a hidden message, a prayer for the success of the family business וכל אשר יעשה יצליח.

In conclusion: The passuk checks off all the boxes. When it's for the good it should work out!

A glimpse of some of the extremely complicated instructions we sent to our embroiderers ...

I will explain briefly the different embroidery techniques I used to create this masterpiece ...

The gradient fill, which I sometimes create using machine embroidery and sometimes manual embroidery, lends a realistic 3D look to any shape. Be it a crown, a pomegranate, or a cluster of grapes, when filled using 5-10 similar thread colors blended tightly together, the result is breath-taking and oh-so-realistic!

Applique Embroidery - the applique technique entails cutting a piece of fabric to form a shape and then attaching it to the background material using a tight embroidery stitch.

Textured Machine Embroidery - One of my favorite aspects of having a top embroidery digitizer on my team is his ability to create the most elegant embroidery fill stitches.

Just have a look at these beautiful leaves that add so much personality and pizzaz.
